Got a suggestion about anything to do with your student life at the University of Chester? You’re in the right place!

All you need to do is submit a suggestion using our quick and easy form – all you need is an email address and an idea! We’ll be in contact to make sure we understand it fully, then it’ll be published on this page.

Please note: we publish student ideas and feedback where they are lawful, respectful, and safe for our community. Submissions may be summarised or moderated to ensure they meet these standards. If your suggestion is something that it is already in progress, or is a complaint better for a different avenue it may not be published publicly.

Your idea might be taken on as a campaign by an Officer – or by you, if you want to lead on it! It might also be made into a Policy, which is an official ‘stance’ that CSU and its Officers takes on issues. Keep an eye on this page for updates about what has been done to make your submission a reality, and we’ll email you to update you on any progress too.

New ideas
Raise awareness about the symptoms of blood clots and push for more testing!

A student sadly suffered from a pulmonic embolism due to the contraceptive pill, and wants to raise awareness for the symptoms of blood clots and campaign for people to be tested for this more frequently. We’ve invited the student in to chat with us!

All CSU volunteers to get a CSU pin badge!

“I would like the Chester Students’ Union to consider offering a CSU badge to all elected and appointed student volunteers, including committee members, as a visible recognition of their contributions.”

Offer short course qualifications!

“I think that offering workshops where students can complete first aid qualifications, mental health first aid and awareness qualifications and other day courses would be well sought after. To complete individually they are very expensive whilst in groups the price is often lower. These qualifications are great for CVs and awareness for everyone, especially those going into STEM, as well as for applying to jobs while at university like kitchen and retail jobs.” We’ve invited the student in to chat with us!

Working on it
Improve the Sensory Room in Seaborne Library!

The Seaborne sensory room space will be developed over the summer and will re-open in the new academic year. We will share more information when we receive it!

More University merch items!

A student has requested some different types of University of Chester merch, with different colours added (not more blue!!). The Officers are taking this feedback directly to the University team in charge of merch. We’ll keep you updated!

Help make PhD students feel part of the professional community!

We’ll be gathering student opinions about this, and these findings will be presented to the University as evidence. More updates to follow! 68% of those polled agreed that PhD students should have their own professional email addresses and profiles on the website.

The University to offer regular self-defense workshops!

The full-time Officers are taking this idea to the Sports and Active Lifestyle team, and will be lobbying to make these workshops available. In the poll on social media, 77% of people said they’d attend a workshop in our online poll (208 votes).

We’re looking into hosting these during Welcome Week 2026. More updates to follow!

More charging ports in lecture and seminar rooms!

You’ve told us there aren’t enough charging ports in seminar rooms for everyone with laptops! The Officers are contacting the University to ask about this. More updates to follow.

Inpost lockers on University campus!

Students on Exton Park think there should be a return of the Inpost lockers on campus to make collecting and sending parcels a lot less hassle.

We changed it!
Change Student Lanyards to red with the UoC logo!

Great news! A budget has been secured for this Change It idea, and the branded UoC lanyards have been designed. These will launch with the new academic year. New starters will be given theirs as they arrive and continuing students will be able to exchange theirs from the helpdesks as they start coming back!

Have a CSU tile on the UoC app!

There is now a CSU tile that links to our website under ‘Community’ on the UoC app. Our icon has also been updated from a beer emoji to the CSU logo!

Adopt an idea
Start a UoC Cycling Society!

There is a large recreational cycle network attached to Exton Park campus (the Millennium Greenway), one of the most senior ranking officials in British Cycling studied at Chester, and cycling is a very widely used method of mobility within the local area!

Want to adopt this idea? Get in touch, or contact the Sports and Active Lifestyle team directly on sal@chester.ac.uk.

Start a Doctor Who Society!

A student has suggested that there should be a Doctor Who society, but is unable to run it themselves. Do you like this idea? Head to chestersu.com/create for all the info on starting your own society.

Increase Lunar New Year activities!

“I would like to suggest that the Chester Students’ Union consider expanding visible recognition of the Lunar New Year across campuses. Increasing campus-wide recognition of the Lunar New Year would feel culturally relevant and locally meaningful. Collaboration with departments such as Chaplaincy, Sport & Active Lifestyle, and student societies could create inclusive activities that promote cultural exchange and belonging across the wider student body.” Do you like this idea? Email us on studentvoice@chester.ac.uk for more information.

Maybe next time…

Sometimes, ideas aren’t possible due to various limitations. Here’s the ideas we weren’t able to make happen, and why. 🙁

Stop changing the UoC app and Moodle!

The Officers do work closely with the University on app/Moodle changes, and always look to embed student feedback into any changes that are made but we understand this is frustrating for you to constantly adapt to. Hopefully with the big improvements this year, the app and your Moodle will change less often. We’ll still feed back any issues you’re facing to the right teams at the University about these!

More Parking on Campus

In an ideal world, of course we would have more parking for students on all campuses. Unfortunately, there just isn’t the space to add this in, and the University are working towards a more sustainable future instead of encouraging more cars on campus too. We will be working with the local community and Council to see if there’s anything that can be done about nearby parking, though.

Bursaries for students from low income families and guarantor assitance

There are bursaries and financial support for students via the University’s Your Money team (find them on Portal). The University have unfortunately declined to offer guarantor assistance.

What happens next?

It’s very simple!

  1. You submit your suggestion
  2. We publish your suggestion on this page under ‘New Ideas’
  3. The Officers meet and discuss whether they want to take on your idea as a campaign
  4. If they do, we’ll keep this page updated with progress and the final results
  5. If they don’t, your idea will move to ‘Adopt an idea’, where anyone can pick up your idea and create a campaign or micro campaign. It’ll also be taken to Union Assembly for discussion

What’s a campaign?

Find out all about campaigns and micro campaigns on the dedicated Campaigns page.
