Helen Lloyd

1. Why do you want to represent students as a part time Officer?

I want to represent students as a part-time Officer because I am passionate about supporting my fellow nursing students and making sure their voices are heard. Nursing can be challenging, especially when balancing university work, clinical placements, and personal responsibilities, so I believe it is important that students feel supported and listened to.

As our satellite campus is dedicated to nursing, I would like to help create a positive and supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable sharing their concerns, ideas, and suggestions. I would also like to help ensure that the needs of our campus are represented fairly and that we have the same opportunities, support, and resources as students at the main campus.

2. What would you want to change or improve for students in your role, and why?

One thing I would like to improve is communication and support for students at our nursing satellite campus. I would want to make sure students feel that their voices are heard and that they have the same access to information, resources, and opportunities as students at the main campus.

I would also like to improve the support available to nursing students when balancing academic work, clinical placements, and personal responsibilities, as I understand how demanding nursing studies can be. I would encourage students to share their concerns and suggestions so that I could represent them effectively and work with staff to find practical solutions.

3. How would you make sure you understand and represent the views of the students you are elected to represent?

I would listen to students’ concerns, gather feedback through conversations and surveys, and make sure students across all year groups feel heard. I would represent their views fairly, communicate feedback to staff, and keep students updated on progress to help improve our experience as nursing students.

May Walker-Turner

1. Why do you want to represent students as a part time Officer?

Working with other societies as Communications Officer of the LGBTQIA+ Society as well as with the Anti-AI Campaign has fuelled my passion for working alongside people to create memorable experience for as many people in the Student Union as possible. The team at CSU are incredibly friendly and I hope to help them accomplish their goals of providing a safe and welcoming environment for all students and societies of different interests, faiths and goals.

2. What would you want to change or improve for students in your role, and why?

I would love to be able to open up more communications channels between societies and their members, offering way more opportunities for collaboration between committees big and small. Collaborations shouldn't just be restricted to popular or pre-existing societies, and committees that struggle to find other committees to work with should be given just as much influence as any other society.

3. How would you make sure you understand and represent the views of the students you are elected to represent?

I want these communication channels to be available to both societies and the CSU itself, as although emails are an effective method, sometimes more casual methods make it far easier for people to communicate faster, as well as feeling much more comfortable while doing so. As such, I would be using these channels (as well as more conventional ways such as in-person discussion) to ensure that I understand the views of everyone that I represent as Societies Officer. Also I don't use AI.

Lexie Moore

1. Why do you want to represent students as a part time Officer?

PGCE/QTS courses are incredibly rewarding however they are incredibly difficult at the same time. I love education and have loved teaching but I believe the support available could be better across all courses. The support available is lacking during placements and the support available comes from staff who taught years before. Our future teachers need support and community from their fellow teachers.

2. What would you want to change or improve for students in your role, and why?

As a representative for all QTS/PGCE courses I will aim to create a community for everyone on teaching placements to come together, seek support, share experiences, and assist each other across assignments and day-to-day tasks. I will ensure ensure that support staff are held accountable for student support, working with course reps and staff to make sure the course works for all trainee teachers.

3. How would you make sure you understand and represent the views of the students you are elected to represent?

Communication is key. I will ensure my email is available for all relevant courses, also ensuring I have office hours that are accessible around placement times, i.e. during half terms or in the evenings. I will also make an effort to visit courses, I will work closely with course reps across the relevant courses and support them to gather feedback on what can be done better to support them across their course.
My experience on the course will help influence my work however my focus is wholly on the students I wish to represent, their experiences may be completely different to mine and that is what matters to me.

Robert Fitzpatrick

1. Why do you want to represent students as a part time Officer?

I have very strong feelings about making the world a better place. I am a vegetarian and care heavily for animals and the natural world so I want to do what I can to stop us from damaging it further. I hope that in this role that I could help the university to be apart of the change that is needed.

2. What would you want to change or improve for students in your role, and why?

In this role I want to encourage other students to use sustainable practices in their day to day lives and around the university. I also want to be there for students to voice their concerns about any ways that they believe the university could be more sustainable, so that I can voice their concerns and make a real change.

3. How would you make sure you understand and represent the views of the students you are elected to represent?

I will make it my goal to make everyone aware of my presence as sustainability officer so they understand that they are able to come to me with any concerns. I will try my best to combat all issues, no matter how small so that I am being fair and equal to every student who wants to see a change.

Glory Elizebeth Saji

1. Why do you want to represent students as a part time Officer?

As a Data Science student, I understand that university life involves balancing academic pressures, personal responsibilities and future career goals. I want to be a Wellbeing Officer because I believe students should feel supported, included and comfortable asking for help when they need it. I would like to listen to students’ concerns, represent their experiences and help raise awareness of the support available. I’m open-minded, approachable and willing to learn from others. Through this role, I hope to make a positive difference and help create a university environment where every student feels valued and heard.

2. What would you want to change or improve for students in your role, and why?

I would like to improve awareness of the wellbeing support available at university and make it easier for students to access it when they need it. Many students face stress from academic deadlines, financial pressures, work and personal challenges, but may not always feel comfortable speaking up. I would like to encourage open conversations about mental wellbeing, create opportunities for students to share their concerns and ensure their voices are heard. I believe small changes, such as better communication and a more supportive environment, can make a real difference to students’ university experience.

3. How would you make sure you understand and represent the views of the students you are elected to represent?

I would make sure I listen to students rather than assume I know what they need. I would create opportunities for honest conversations, whether through informal chats, student feedback or wellbeing discussions, so that even those who find it difficult to speak up feel included. As a Data Science student, I value looking at different perspectives before drawing conclusions, and I would apply the same approach when representing students. I would look for common concerns while respecting that every student’s experience is different, then share their views responsibly and follow up so they know their voices have made a difference.

Rebecca Aisosa Omoregie

1. Why do you want to represent students as a part time Officer?

I believe university should be about more than lectures, assignments, APA referencing and analysis. As we say back home in Nigeria, “When you pass through school, allow school to pass through you.” I want students to make the most of their university experience, regardless of how long they study. As a postgraduate student on a one-year programme, I’m determined not to let that time limit my experiences. With my experience in event coordination, communication and social media, I want to help create a connected community where students build friendships, discover interests and find their people.

2. What would you want to change or improve for students in your role, and why?

My vision is built around four pillars: CONNECT, GROW, PROMOTE and INCLUDE. I want to encourage collaboration between societies, help them attract and retain members, improve awareness of their activities and make every student feel welcome. I’m not here to make empty promises. I’m here to listen, collaborate and help societies thrive. I’d work with society committees to understand their challenges, explore better ways to promote events and encourage joint activities. As a student new to Chester myself, I understand the importance of finding your place, and I want to make that easier for others.

3. How would you make sure you understand and represent the views of the students you are elected to represent?

I’d listen to students and society committees through regular conversations, meetings, surveys, social media and society events. I’d make an effort to hear from different societies, including smaller groups, and understand why some students aren’t involved in societies. I’d share feedback with the relevant CSU teams, explore solutions collaboratively and keep students updated on progress. I want to be an approachable officer and a safe space for students to share their concerns without feeling judged. Most importantly, I’d listen without assumptions, represent students fairly and follow up on the issues they raise.

Zaara Mahmood

1. Why do you want to represent students as a part time Officer?

As a Biomedical Sciences student working towards a career in medicine, I believe healthcare knowledge should extend beyond the classroom. I want to introduce a First Aid and Basic Life Support role because every student deserves to feel more confident responding to an emergency. Medical emergencies can happen anywhere, including on campus, and knowing what to do in those first few moments can make a real difference. I want to turn my passion for medicine into something practical that benefits the wider student community, helping make Chester a safer place to study, live and socialise.

2. What would you want to change or improve for students in your role, and why?

I would like to improve students' access to first aid awareness and Basic Life Support training. Many students may not know how to respond to an emergency, perform CPR or use an AED confidently. I would work with CSU, the university and qualified training providers to explore accessible workshops, first aid demonstrations, night out first aid tips and clear information about emergency procedures, campus defibrillators, how to deal with spiking and lots more. My aim would be to make lifesaving knowledge more accessible, rather than assuming students already have these skills. Even helping one student feel prepared to act in an emergency could make a meaningful difference to our university community.

3. How would you make sure you understand and represent the views of the students you are elected to represent?

I would gather student feedback through short surveys, social media polls, conversations on campus and collaboration with societies and course representatives. I would ask students what first aid skills they feel least confident about, whether they would attend workshops and what barriers might prevent them from participating. I would use this feedback to prioritise students' needs and work with CSU and relevant professionals to explore realistic solutions. I would also share updates on progress and ask for further feedback, ensuring students could see how their views were being used to shape the role.

Farhana Parveen

1. Why do you want to represent students as a part time Officer?

I want to become a Part-Time Officer because I believe every student deserves to feel heard, supported, and represented throughout their university experience. Having served as a youth leader at church, leading a group of 32 young people, and as president of both Toastmasters and Interact Club in high school, I have developed strong leadership, communication, and teamwork skills. These experiences have taught me the importance of listening to different perspectives and advocating for others. I would love to bring these qualities to the University of Chester, helping create an inclusive student community where concerns are addressed, ideas are valued, and every student has the opportunity to thrive.

2. What would you want to change or improve for students in your role, and why?

I would want to improve how students access support and how their concerns are communicated to the university. Starting university can be challenging, particularly when balancing academic commitments, finances, work and personal responsibilities. I would advocate for clearer access to wellbeing services, better awareness of available financial support, and more opportunities for students to share their experiences and influence decisions. I believe student representation should go beyond listening; it should involve turning feedback into meaningful action. My goal would be to help create an inclusive university environment where students feel supported, their voices are valued, and everyone has a fair opportunity to succeed.

3. How would you make sure you understand and represent the views of the students you are elected to represent?

I would make sure I represent students fairly by creating opportunities for open and honest communication. I would engage with students through surveys, informal conversations, student forums and university events to understand their different experiences, concerns and priorities. I would make a conscious effort to hear from students whose voices are often overlooked, ensuring representation is inclusive. My leadership experience has taught me the importance of listening without judgement and considering different perspectives before making decisions. I would also provide regular updates on the feedback received, the actions taken and the progress made, so students know their voices are genuinely making a difference.

Rafet Rafet

1. Why do you want to represent students as a part time Officer?

I believe every student deserves to feel heard, supported and included. I want to make it easier for students across Chester’s campuses to raise concerns without feeling judged, and to find the right support. By listening on affordability, accommodation and campus facilities, I’ll work towards practical changes that make university life more welcoming for everyone.

2. What would you want to change or improve for students in your role, and why?

I’ll campaign for more affordable food options, clearer access to student support and better campus facilities. I’d explore a dedicated accommodation-sharing space where students can advertise spare rooms and find compatible flatmates. I’d also promote anonymous feedback, raise concerns about assessment feedback, and advocate for inclusive, affordable social events.

3. How would you make sure you understand and represent the views of the students you are elected to represent?

I’ll listen through regular conversations, surveys and anonymous feedback, so students can share concerns without pressure. I’ll help students find the right department or support service, and bring common issues from all Chester campuses to Union Assembly, CSU and the University. I’ll share regular updates so students can see what has been raised and what progress is made.

Finlay Hughes

1. Why do you want to represent students as a part time Officer?

I am a third-year BSc marine biology student who is passionate about my field of conservation and sustainability. I will push for a campus that is both enjoyable for students and nature. And I want to see my university be not just net zero by 2030, but carbon negative.

2. What would you want to change or improve for students in your role, and why?

I plan to push for carbon literacy across all departments in addition to implementing green initiatives across all campuses such as more energy efficiency in buildings, making the campus more biodiverse, and engaging in community action. I am also unapologetically anti-GenAI and will do what I can to restrict the use of it in university. Whilst I have little control over what students do, if elected I can pressure departments to stop using and promoting genAI in their social media and assignments. I also plan to help students be both eco-friendly and budget friendly.

3. How would you make sure you understand and represent the views of the students you are elected to represent?

As a BioSci Student, I have ideas that I can advocate for and implement that are both impactful and practical. I understand compromises are sometimes needed, and I plan to be part of decisions that benefit every party. I will listen to students' ideas and ensure meaningful conversations can be held that make a difference.

Ankit Kumar - Manifesto

Title: Stronger Support, Better Opportunities, One United Student Community

As an international postgraduate student, I understand the challenges many students face — from finding part-time work and understanding UK systems to building confidence and feeling truly included on campus. I am standing for International Students & Employability Officer to create practical, realistic improvements that directly support students’ academic and career success.

My priorities are:

Increase awareness of part-time job opportunities and campus roles
Work with the Careers Team to organise skill-building workshops (CV writing, interview preparation, LinkedIn optimisation)
Improve communication between international students and the Students’ Union
Promote networking events connecting students with local employers
Ensure international student concerns are clearly represented in decision-making

I believe representation should be action-based, not just promises. I will actively gather student feedback through surveys and conversations to ensure your voices are heard and reflected in initiatives.

University should not only be about studying — it should prepare us for life and careers. My goal is to help students feel supported, informed, and confident about their future in the UK and beyond.

I would like to change the holidays that student struggle with especially school term times student rooms or social groups as we have non in birkenhead

I am running for the Student Union because I want to ensure every student's voice drives real change on campus. My top priority is improving communication between the student body and university leadership. I will work to expand academic support resources and advocate for more affordable, high-quality campus dining options. With my previous experience in leadership and event organization, I know how to turn student feedback into concrete actions. Em Maybanks

1. Why do you want to represent students as a part time Officer?

I want to be Wellbeing Officer because I am passionate about mental health and wellbeing and want every student to feel supported during their time at Chester. Having experienced university life myself and now returning as a PGCE student, I understand both the excitement and challenges of this stage of adulthood. Student life has also changed since my undergraduate degree, with the cost-of-living crisis and wider uncertainties creating additional pressures. I want to help make wellbeing a priority and ensure students feel heard, supported and connected.

2. What would you want to change or improve for students in your role, and why?

I would work collaboratively with other Officers to improve students’ university experience, with a particular focus on connection and belonging. In an increasingly digital world, it can be easy to feel lonely or isolated, so I would like to create more opportunities for students to connect in person. I would also explore ways to connect students who have experienced bereavement, alongside working with local organisations to promote wellbeing and make support more accessible.

3. How would you make sure you understand and represent the views of the students you are elected to represent?

As a PGCE student, I understand the importance of making representation accessible and flexible. I would use social media, QR-code questionnaires and in-person conversations to hear from students with different experiences and needs. I would actively listen, seek feedback and work with CSU to turn students’ views into meaningful action. I also believe it is important to look after my own wellbeing so that I can lead by example and advocate for others sustainably.

Harri Howe

1. Why do you want to represent students as a part time Officer?

I want to bridge the gap between students and faculty, I am a great communicator and people person as well as a known/trusted member in our LGBTQIA+ community. I think my age gives me a benefit of understanding both the fresh 18 year olds who might be just now realising their queerness to the older LGBTQIA+ people who have faced the previously less accepting times.

2. What would you want to change or improve for students in your role, and why?

I want to maximise the support of queer folk on campus, to have a solid collection of curated resources for those in all stages of discovery and coming-out, as well as to increase the gender equality, such as giving input on gender neutral spaces and support for those undergoing a gender transition.

3. How would you make sure you understand and represent the views of the students you are elected to represent?

I will make sure to have an always-open channel of communication between myself, students and campus, prioritising face-to-face meetings and accomodating those who need it. If I don't understand something, then I'll explore it more until I do, talk to my community, research potential issues and fixtures and relay it back as best I can.

Philippa Aveyard

1. Why do you want to represent students as a part time Officer?

As the Chapter lead for Chester through the enough against rape non profit organisation, I’ve walked alongside those impacted by sexual assault. I aim to provide a safe, compassionate space to talk, heal, and find alternative support if needed, while educating our university community on the impact it has on woman and everyone affected. Listening to your stories showed me just how gentle guidance and genuine safety is vital. I want to bring that same heart and understanding to representing you. Together, we can ensure no student ever feels alone, unheard, or unsupported.

2. What would you want to change or improve for students in your role, and why?

I aim to expand safe spaces and mental health support, ensuring no student ever feels alone. I want to improve our campus by offering accessible, alternative support for survivors, while strengthening sexual assault, harrasment and hate crime awareness through workshops across every department and campus. Many students carry quiet struggles and they deserve a caring environment where their voices truly guide real change.

3. How would you make sure you understand and represent the views of the students you are elected to represent?

I’ll aim to host regular informal drop-ins, anonymous digital feedback boxes, and campus check-ins so every voice can be heard. Representing us students isn't just about speaking for you, it's about walking alongside you.

Jason-Ellis Platts - Manifesto

Hello! I am Jason (he/they) and I am running for the role of Access and Inclusion Officer!

If elected, I will:

Advocate for the creation of accessible study rooms so that no student misses out
Create sensory friendly socials to ensure all students are included, both independently, and in collaboration with groups and societies
Ensure local and university support is easily available, so you're aware of what support you can access, such as assistance with inclusion plans, DSA, and local resources outside of the University
Monitor and ensure the campuses remain fully accessible, with regular walk/wheel arounds to assess whether they're meeting student needs

I have previous experience as the Disability and Inclusion representative of my college, as well as more recent volunteering within the University, which will lend me the skills necessary to create change and advocate for students like you!

Alyssa Carrington

1. Why do you want to represent students as a part time Officer?

I understand how isolating being a queer individual can be, especially with social media and the increased violence against those who are LGBTQIA+. It is so important for us to have a voice and feel safe not just within our community but outside of it too.

2. What would you want to change or improve for students in your role, and why?

I understand over the years, being queer has become more accepted, however there are increasing cases of hate crimes against our community. I want to give everyone a safe place to learn and understand more about LGBTQIA+ people as well as for those in the community to have a safe environment to express themselves as they truly are.

3. How would you make sure you understand and represent the views of the students you are elected to represent?

As not only a queer person but a queer woman, i understand how difficult and isolating it can feel. I understand how it feels to want to hide that part of yourself away. I also understand how it feels to have that part of yourself revealed to the world before you are ready. I ensure I will create a safe environment for queer students to express themselves and their identity without fear of judgement and ridicule.

Caitlin Wheadon

1. Why do you want to represent students as a part time Officer?

CSU inspired me to believe that positive change is possible. Seeing them help make the new university lanyards happen encouraged me to take action, including starting a petition to improve parking at Warrington. Being personally recommended by a staff member, although I don't know who, has given me the confidence to put myself forward and make a difference for other students.

2. What would you want to change or improve for students in your role, and why?

I want to improve student safety, parking, facilities and communication at Warrington. I've already started a petition about parking issues because I believe students deserve a safe and supportive environment. As an Adult Nursing student, I also understand the challenges of balancing placements and university life. I want to help make everyday student experiences better and ensure concerns lead to real improvements.

3. How would you make sure you understand and represent the views of the students you are elected to represent?

I would listen to students, encourage honest feedback and make sure everyone feels comfortable sharing their concerns. I would speak with students from different courses, not just nursing, and work closely with CSU to raise issues and find solutions. Most importantly, I would keep students updated and show them that their voices matter and that positive change is possible.

Aishwarya Lakshmi

1. Why do you want to represent students as a part time Officer?

I want to turn sustainability from something we talk about into something we practise every day. As Sustainability Officer, I’d love to bring students’ ideas to life, make greener choices easier, and show that small actions together can create a real difference on campus.

2. What would you want to change or improve for students in your role, and why?

I’d like to make sustainable living easier and more accessible for students, with better recycling facilities, less food waste, and more affordable eco-friendly options. I’d also love to involve students in fun, practical initiatives so sustainability feels like a shared effort, not a responsibility we face alone.

3. How would you make sure you understand and represent the views of the students you are elected to represent?

I’d listen to students from different backgrounds, gather their ideas through conversations, surveys, and social media, and make sure everyone has a chance to be heard. I’d use their feedback to focus on changes that genuinely matter to students and keep them updated on the progress we make together.

Kati-Leigh Newson - Manifesto

I’m Kati, a Business Management and Marketing student with a strong passion for sport and student experience at Chester. Alongside studying, I’m actively involved in university sport through my role as Team Captain and Social Media Officer for Women’s Rugby Union, where I’ve worked closely with SportChester to develop the club and supported teammates on and off the pitch. Through this, I’ve seen first-hand how important accessible and well-organised sport is to student life, wellbeing, and community.

I believe I would make an excellent Sports Officer because I understand sport from both the participation and organisational side. I’m approachable, organised, and genuinely invested in improving opportunities for all students, whether they’re competitive athletes, social players, or completely new to sport. I want sport at Chester to feel inclusive, well-communicated, and worth getting involved in.

As Sports Officer, my aims are :
• Improve communication between students, clubs, and SportChester making opportunities, updates, and support clear and accessible
• Increase inclusivity and participation, particularly for beginners and students who may feel intimidated by university sport
• Support club committees with practical guidance, promotion, and development
• Enhance the student sport experience

Peter Davies - Manifesto

Hi, my name is Peter Davies, and I am running for the position of Non-Traditional Students’ Officer on Union Assembly.

I am a Postgraduate student studying Psychology

If I am elected, I will ensure that all commuting students have their voice heard. I am currently the Vice President of the Mature Student Society (Matsoc).

I am approachable and a good listener. I will listen to any concerns you have and try and get them resolved as quickly as possible.
