Hello everyone, Summer here, your VP Student Life! Hope you are all well! These updates will be coming to you every month from one of the Officer team this year, so keep an eye out for them.

October commemorates spooky season! One of, if not the best time of the year, in my opinion. This month has been jam-packed with meetings and events to keep me busy. I have thoroughly enjoyed meeting you all at the sports and societies fair and Welcome Week at the end of September!

On the first day of October, CSU had Trustee Board training. It was a great opportunity for all the trustees to come together and meet and to get to know CSU, who we are and what we do. Everyone seemed keen to get started and I am looking forward to the next official Trustee Board meeting! Also, good news! Student Trustee Applications are now open, so apply now on our website! It is a brilliant experience and looks great on your CV.blonde woman holding a sign that says student trustees at csu

The second week involved a meeting between me, Bren Bikes and Amy Butt from the Sustainability team at the University. Good news on the buy-a-bike front – Bren Bikes will be coming to different campuses next year to sell bikes and fix old ones you already have, so keep your eyes peeled. Nearer that time I will be putting information out on social media about the best/different ways to get between each campus! CSU also met with Jim Dickinson from Wonkhe to keep updated on the 10 most important things going on in the Higher Education world, such as cost of living and the housing crisis. This was really interesting to hear about and kept us knowledgeable as an organisation.

Open day was next and what a blast it was! I loved speaking to potential students about CSU and it was great that some of our wonderful societies were there to talk to these students too. In the same week CSU bought Halloween Decor will now gives a spooky feeling to the space! Come in and have a look.

The third week of October was non-stop, starting with some first meetings with our new societies! I am so excited to see what you all get up to and it was great to meet you. Next it was the Queens Park mixer! This was a well-engaged event, so well done to Adedayo for organising it. The pizza went down a treat alongside the popchips and kinder buenos we brought! On the Wednesday, the Battle of the Halls happened – I am yet to know who won, however it was a blast for everyone involved, especially the tug of war. Thank you to everyone who participated.

This was hosted by our President, Lily, with a focus on 3 questions: What do you like about where you live? What does Community mean to you? What could you do to strengthen your community? These were answered by students, and Jane Makin and Paul Fielder from Cheshire West and Chester Council to answer any questions about issues regarding the Garden Quarter linking to things such as waste, litter, safety and more. There are 2 more that will occur throughout the year, with one in January with Adedayo on lead and myself leading the last in March!

We also held our By-Elections across October. Voting turnout increased by over 45% compared to last year – thank you so much to everyone who voted or campaigned! We now have a great cohort of Student Council for this academic year. five students smiling at the camera, long shot

This final week week involved the first ever Student Council training and meeting of the year. Congrats to all Officers, old and new, for your dedication and answers in the meeting and in training. Myself and the CSU are so happy for the engagement and interesting conversations, and I for one am so glad to be apart of it, supporting students and wanting what is best for you all!

This week we also held all of the Halloween events! The Halloween Quiz on Tuesday took place at 200 Degrees Coffee with teams battling it out! It was a lot fun to host and well done to the winners. Very good costumes too! Please keep an eye out for a Christmas Quiz coming your way in December. On Wednesday, we had our lovely pumpkin carving session, which was a lot of fun to be apart of to see everyone’s creations! I hope I have as much luck when I pumpkin carve at home.
