As our current Officers come to the end of their time as leaders of Chester Students’ Union, they are reflecting on their year in office, talking about their achievements and favourite part about being your representatives. Finally is Ellie Smith, your 2023-24 CSU President.
Today marks my final day as President of Chester Students’ Union, and what a year it has been! Looking back to July last year, I could never have predicted what the following 12 months would look like. From Welcome Week events to Summer Celebrations, presenting at awards nights, and attending a total of 17 graduation ceremonies (including my own!), this year has been full of fun!
I have also represented you, the students, in many different capacities. I am a Governor of the University of Chester and seeing the strategic running of the University has helped me to understand the processes that they go through, and I have advocated for when student voice needs to be prioritised. I have also chaired the Chester Students’ Union Trustee Board, recruiting 3 new student trustees and 4 new external trustees – these are the people that hold the Senior Leadership Team at CSU to account, and make sure that we are always doing the best we can for students. I also led on the recruitment of a new CEO, and Jamie has already made a fantastic impact here at CSU.
Although I will miss CSU, I am so excited for the next chapter and to be continuing my education. I will be studying for my PGCE at the University of Oxford, starting in September. Thank you for trusting me as your President for the past year, it has been incredible to represent you and make sure you have the best time at University!
