On the 4th of April 2023, Chester Students’ Union (CSU) made a significant location change at University Centre Shrewsbury (UCS) to accommodate a new learning resource for its students. The old Union space will be transformed into a VR suite, providing an innovative way for students to learn and explore.

As a result, the Union had to relocate to a new space next to the 24hr PC access space in Block D of the Guildhall in Shrewsbury. Despite the reduced space, CSU has managed to take all the necessary amenities with them, including a pool table, relaxed seating areas, and a microwave for warming food.  This area will be developed further over the coming months. This new location continues to provide a comfortable and functional space for students to socialize and study, which is what the old space provided as well.

According to the CSU front-of-house team, Megan and Beth, the move has been well-received by students. CSU welcomes feedback on the move, and students are encouraged to speak to Megan and Beth if they have any suggestions or concerns. Alternatively, students can email shrewsburysu@chester.ac.uk to provide their feedback.

CSU would like to thank University Centre Shrewsbury for showing commitment to students by finding a suitable space for the Union. CSU is also very excited about the developments at UCS and fully supports the introduction of the VR suite which is an excellent learning resource.

In conclusion, the new Chester Students’ Union space is an exciting development for the University Centre Shrewsbury community, and the addition of the VR suite shows a commitment to innovation and excellence. The new space provides a comfortable and functional environment for students to socialize and study, and we look forward to seeing the benefits of the VR suite in the years to come.
