Hey, University of Chester students! It’s time to gather, chat, and decide the future of Chester Students’ Union! 🎉

Join us for the ASMM – our big yearly gathering where the real magic happens. Think of it as your chance to flex your inner policymaker, champion the issues you care about, and steer the direction of your Students’ Union. Plus, it’s not just about voting and motions (although those are important); it’s about celebrating you, the students, and the power of your voice!

When is the ASMM?

The Annual Student Members’ Meeting is taking place at 4pm on Thursday 13th February. It will be held in the Auditorium (CML018) in the School of Education building on Exton Park campus.

Fancy joining online instead? No problemo, there’s a handy link to join online here

No need to book, just show up! But you can find the ASMM event on our website to book a (free) ticket if you’d like a reminder nearer the time.

We need a certain number of students to attend the ASMM for us to reach quorate – this means that we have enough students to democratically vote on policies and affiliation. So… tell your friends!

If you want to vote but can’t make it, you can nominate your friend to vote by proxy, just like in a General Election! You can download the form to nominate a proxy. You’ll need to submit it before the 10th February 2025.

What’s on the agenda?

Download the completed agenda to read.

Key topics will include:

  • Ratification of the previous ASMM minutes
  • Receiving Officer and Student Council reports
  • Hearing our Events report
  • Voting on continuing NUS affiliation
  • Asking CSU and its trustees any questions you have
  • Recieving the Trustee Board’s report on CSU’s activities
  • Presenting our accounts to you for the previous financial year
  • Student proposals and policy discussions

Submit Your Ideas!

Do you have an idea for improving student life? Want to propose a new SU policy? This is your chance! Any student can submit a proposal to be discussed at the meeting.

How to Submit a Proposal:

  1. Write Your Proposal: Clearly outline what you want to change and why. This can just be a few sentences, nothing too complicated.
  2. Find Supporters: You might want to prove that students want the change by getting signatures on a petition, or quotes from students.
  3. Submit It by Wednesday 5th February: Send your proposal to studentvoice@chester.ac.uk before 4pm on the 5th February.

Why Attend?

This is your chance to make your voice heard, influence CSU decisions, and ensure your Students’ Union represents your interests. Plus, it’s a great opportunity to meet other engaged students and learn more about student democracy and the elections.

Whether you’re passionate about change or just here for the snacks and vibes, this is your meeting, and we need you there. So grab your friends, bring your best ideas, and let’s make change happen!
