A year as your Vice President Activities
Apart from being another year old and me losing more hair, oh yeah and being in an endless pandemic we have produced and delivered quite a lot. If you asked me this time last year where I’d see myself in a years’ time or what would we be doing. I’d probably not guess that we would be under any restrictions and we would all be doing our own thing. However, we can only dream till that day comes.
With that being said, what have we done and produced this year…
In July – September we developed, changed, adapted and delivered our first-ever welcome week/ fresher’s week whatever you want to call it. It was tough but also strange, even for me never mind this year’s intake. We had …
- 4 out of 5 outdoor cinema with the weather washing the last one out
- A weeklong of society and sports showcasing themselves to you around Exton park, with similar showcasing happening at our smaller sites
- Scavenger hunts
- All campuses Netflix parties
- Themed get together (Shrewsbury)
- Cooking lessons and so much more
Let’s hope this is all over before the next mass intake comes in September, and we can have more people at our events and do so much more.
In October we had a little more freedom with lighter restrictions, where we had pumpkin carving, wellbeing sessions and learning new skills with Dan. To this day I still cannot RollerSkate however, thank you to all of those who welcomed me into your sessions or taught me a new skill.
Through November and Sam Derbyshire took it upon ourselves to lead on Movember and ‘attempt’ to grow some facial hair, along with increasing the awareness of men’s mental health. We did this through
- Posters around campuses
- Posts across social media
- Courses from mindful health care
- Challenges
- Coffee morning events
- Chalk events and much more
This wasn’t the only thing that went on through November, we all came into our second lockdown right at the start so all of this was to be swiftly made virtual where we could, along with delivering other events such as weekly quizzes and union on tour right at the start.
December was a busy month with it being a half month and still lots to do we had our second union on tour, and all of reunion/ re-freshers being planned and adapted on short notice. Just like the rest of the country, a lot of us did not know what was coming in the New Year, this made it very stressful for us all. However, the amazing CSU team pulled through and January was amazing with daily events and activities being delivered. Events such as …
- Medication groups
- Yoga sessions
- Among us gaming nights
- The launch of the book club
- All campus quiz
- Netflix party nights
- The launch of Super team and Super soc of the year.
You all got involved and showed us how much you want to be involved, you all are truly amazing.
FEBRUARY!! What a month, so much going on in the shortest month of the year. LGBT+ history month, elections and the start of the AGM’s. This month was busy, hectic but very enjoyable. Congratulations to all those were have been elected into committees, and for the newbies to CSU with Lauren, Gabby and most importantly with the best job Jordanne. You all smashed your campaigns and truly won the hearts of your students. But also congratulations to my 2 other officers with Sam keeping VP Warrington and Mr Rankin taking over from el- presidentay and hopefully carrying on the amazing work she has done other her 2 years. I cannot wait to see where all 5 of you take CSU and develop it further than it is, with your new and inspirational ideas.
March to June was slightly quieter on my behalf on social media however, we had lots of amazing events being developed. The first-ever Virtual Varsity going ahead in mid-March with lots of interactive/competitive events going on along the week. What else did we have? Well in April we had the student union annual general meeting where you the students passed some new rules and regulations.
In May we had the 1839 awards, the society awards and our first in-person large event this year of Coachella. A huge shout out to the amazing Amber, Chloe and Alex, WHAT A JOB THEY DID. The 3 of them smashed it out of the park, they have truly shined a bright light in these dark and less active times and made the students union fun and engaging. Congratulations to all the winners of the awards also, you did earn them.
In June we had the sports presentation, where the Athletic Union team hosted a brilliant evening and did highlight all the amazing achievements you as sport has achieved this year. YOU SMASHED IT and brought the meaning of ALL TOGETHER BETTER to life. Also in June a lot of people received their grades for university, and all I can say is congratulations on making it through the year and if this was your final year, well done and making it through university and all the best for the future.
And that’s the end of what happened this year as being your Vice President activities this year.
before I finally finish this post I would like to say thank you to everyone at CSU and thank you to my fellow officers of Eleanor, Jack, Sam and Adam. We have all stuck together throughout this year, we had our ups and downs but the love was always there. All the best on all of your future endeavours.
I would like to finish off by saying thank you to all the people who helped me through the year, if I did not get to say goodbye to you in person or get to see you in person this year I’m sorry and let’s hope our paths cross again. Thank you all
