Hello everyone!
Lily here, your CSU President, and today I am bringing you your officer round up of September. What a month September has been, both here at the office and also for all our new and returning students. It is so amazing to see so much buzz and activity back on campus again, I must say summer has felt incredibly quiet without people here so it so nice to see friendly faces!
So, what have we been up to this month? Well, we kicked off the month by attending the Community Liaison Committee as a trio. This gave us chance to talk about upcoming campaigns we are working on and how that would fit into our community. It was also a great chance for us as officers to see what issues are impacting the wider community and Chester area. We were notified of any changes that will be impacting student life, giving us the opportunity as officers to discuss any concerns we had.
Next up, I headed on down to London for Student Governor training. Not many people know, but when you are elected President of the union you automatically sit on the University Council and become a Governor of the university. This is a lot of responsibility, but the university very kindly sent me on a trip down to London where myself and other student Governors came together to complete a day’s training on what our role is, how we get our voice heard and many other issues relating to governance such as finance. I was lucky and got to see some the big sights along the way such as Big Ben and the London Eye, which was very exciting for me as I had never ventured to London before.
This month I also headed to Shrewsbury for the graduation ceremonies. What a beautiful day it was. Seeing all the students come together to celebrate each other’s and their own achievements was lovely; the day was glorious, and spirits were high. I felt very honoured to join the students for the day and take part in the procession. I must say it made me very excited for my own graduation in November!
Adedayo has been making headway with the remodel of our Student Voice Reps and Summer has been working on some exciting projects behind the scenes, all while the 3 of us have been continuing to meet with the university departments such as Student Services, the Proctors and the Student Engagement Team.
I will be honest and say September has been taken over by Welcome Week. It has been an extremely busy time for us as an office and I am incredibly proud to work alongside the individuals that I do. We pulled off an incredible week of events and got to meet so many amazing students. We of course had the beloved Welcome Fair where I am sure we all filled up on pizza and ice cream. Thanks to everyone that queued, it was so nice to see such a big turnout!
We then had our Sports and Societies fair – if you couldn’t make it, check out the Opportunities tab on the website all about our amazing societies. It has been so lovely to meet you all! We had many events through the week, Life in Chester came down to run some sessions and us as your Officers ran sessions ourselves, like the Board Game Cafe and cinema nights.
We are so excited to keep the momentum going in the following months, make sure you follow our insta – @CSUOFFICERTEAM – to keep up to date with everything we get up to!
Lily
