Hello everyone!

Adedayo here, your 24/25 VP Education. I hope you are all well and enjoying the last of the Summer. August has been an action-packed month for us, filled with exciting events, meaningful interactions, and preparations for the new academic year. Here’s a rundown of what we have been up to!

We kicked off the month returning from the NUS Lead and Change Conference. This event was a great opportunity to learn and network with other sabbatical officers across the UK, exchange ideas, and gather insights on how we can drive positive change in our university.

Next up, I had a sneak peek of the Moodle redesign! Some SVRs and I had the opportunity to get an early look at the new and improved Moodle, which promises to be more user-friendly and efficient. We are excited about the changes, especially the new features like easier access to support services and the ability for students to view their unconfirmed grades directly within Moodle. I am confident this redesign will greatly enhance your learning experience, which is a key focus of my manifesto.

We also had a series of meet and greets with key university teams, including Student Services, Proctors, Chester Business School, the Comms Team, Faculties Student Engagement Team, and Disability Awareness. These sessions were valuable, allowing us to build stronger relationships and ensure we are all working together to support you in every way possible.

Let’s talk about our IG page! We shared some fantastic videos where Lily took everyone on an engaging tour of Chester, Kingsway Campus and the Main Campus (Exton Park). This is part of our effort to help you get acquainted with Chester and make the most of the resources available across our campuses. It’s a great way to get a feel for what’s around you as you prepare for the new academic year. If you have not seen it yet, make sure to check it out at @csuofficerteam (and follow us, please!)

Guess what? We took a trip to Chester Zoo! While this might sound like all fun (and yes, there was plenty of that), it was also an important team building opportunity. Who doesn’t love a day at the zoo?

We also rolled up our sleeves for Clearing and Open Day events. It was great to meet prospective students and their families, offering them a warm welcome and helping them navigate the exciting (and sometimes overwhelming) process of joining the University of Chester. We are thrilled to have played a part in their decision-making process and can’t wait to see them on campus soon.

Lights, camera, action! We had a blast filming the “Welcome to CSU” video. This was a fantastic opportunity to showcase what we do at the CSU and to give new students a sneak peek into different societies they are about to join. Keep an eye out for the output of our video… it’ll be ready soon!

We were also invited to the Student Support Podcast, where we shared practical advice on everything from getting involved in campus life to managing homesickness and staying organised with academic work and offered top tips to our new students. It was a beautiful episode. If you have not listened yet, click here to catch up on our conversation and the top tips!

And finally, we are ready for Welcome Week. From planning events to coordinating with various teams, we are making sure that the start of the academic year is as smooth, welcoming, and fun as possible. We can’t wait to welcome you all back and to greet our new students with a lineup of activities that’s sure to make your first week unforgettable. Keep an eye out on our homepage for all the info you’ll need!

That’s a wrap for August! It has been a month of learning, connecting, and gearing up for the new academic year ahead. We hope you are as excited as we are for everything that’s coming up. If you have any questions, you can contact me via sueducation@chester.ac.uk, or DM us on Instagram – @csuofficerteam.

See you in September! Our President, Lily, will be filling you in on what we have been up to in a month’s time, but there will be plenty going on to read, watch and do on the website and our socials before then.
