On the 13th of June, the University of Chester Race Advocates hosted their exciting “Sharing Our Culture” event at the Churchill Brasserie at Queens Park Campus. Funded by the Chester Students’ Union Proud to Be fund, this initiative exists to enable our students to foster a sense of belonging across the University from underrepresented backgrounds, through hosting events and projects. We believe that change across the University should be led by our students, and we want to provide resources for students to be able to do this!
The event was a celebration of cultural diversity, showcasing different traditions from our students from around the globe through music, live performances, and art exhibitions. It provided an opportunity for our students to network, engage in different traditional customs, and proudly share their heritage with the student community. We are incredibly proud of the Race Advocates and our societies who were involved with the event, namely the Nepalese and Middle Eastern Societies. These student groups consistently go above and beyond to build a welcoming community for international students to feel at home in Chester.

With almost 70 students in attendance, the event was a huge success and students particularly enjoyed the variety of artwork, performances, and talks, leaving them with a deeper appreciation for the different cultures that form the University of Chester student cohort. The event also achieved its primary goal of promoting and celebrating cultural diversity and inclusion, and successfully raised awareness about the goals of the Student Race Advocates (SRA).
Congratulations to the Race Advocates for organising such a meaningful event and thank you to all who participated and contributed to its success. If you want to learn more about the Chester Students’ Union Proud to Be fund, head to: https://www.chestersu.com/proudtobe
