Hello everyone,

Last week marked the return of the Athletics Union sports teams as they participated in their first round of BUCS fixtures. I had the opportunity to watch both men’s and women’s football, badminton, netball, lacrosse, and women’s hockey teams in action. I was truly impressed by the teams’ performances, as they gave their absolute best on the field, and the enthusiastic support from their spectators was remarkable.

I strongly encourage all students to make use of their free time on Wednesday afternoons by visiting various sports facilities, including the squash courts, MUGA, hockey pitch, sports hall, swimming pool, Kingsway rugby pitches, and other off-campus amenities.

I also want to commend Ali Cutler for taking on the role of interim Sport and Active Lifestyle Manager. Her team’s dedication and hard work have been truly commendable. The Sport and Active Lifestyle Department also offers “Active Campus,” which provides opportunities for students to engage in social sports, whether it’s 7-a-side football, table tennis, or dodgeball.

In addition, I’m actively collaborating with the Athletics Union to explore ways to promote more inclusive sports, ensuring that disability is not a barrier to participation. During my undergraduate studies in Physical Education, one of the key principles my lecturers emphasised was finding ways to include all students in PE lessons. Let’s continue the hard work, Athletics Union teams, both on and off the field.

I also had the pleasure of attending the Indian Society film night, where many members showcased their traditional dancing, singing, and beatboxing talents. I even joined in the dancing myself. Furthermore, I attended a book club meetup where over 30 people participated. I’ve been closely working with our Student Group Coordinator to meet with some of our new societies and explore ways to enhance their clubs. If any societies would like me to attend their sessions or events, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with me.
