On Tuesday 14th June Jordanne presented a report and recommendations on tackling spiking to the Cheshire West and Chester council licensing committee. The report focused on our research and feedback from students, local venues and national news and presented our recommendations for the licensing policy to acknowledge and tackle spiking, holding Cheshire West and Chester’s establishments accountable for preventative measures, procedures and report processes. We were the first ever externals to present to the licensing committee and the report was received favourably by all councillors.

The meeting resulted in a unanimous vote in favour of our reviewing our recommendations and they have stated that our policy recommendations would be implemented by October 2022. This is a huge win for CSU after months of working hard within the University and the local community to tackle spiking. We are going to continue working alongside the UoC campus councils and the University with policy development directly correlating to spiking and will also continue to work alongside students to ensure their safety is continually at the forefront of the work.
