Your priority, Our work

Since the start of the academic year, we have been working on an anti-spiking and anti-harassment campaign.

In October, University of Chester students, and students nationwide, joined a boycott of night-time venues to stand up against spiking and harassment.

We stand with you.

Our Campaign aims to ensure that the emphasis is no longer put on the survivors of spiking and harassment, but on the perpetrators themselves, and on the venues who so often don’t have thorough policies on reporting and safe guarding in instances where spiking and harassment may have taken place.

You as students have asked us to lobby the council, and venues locally to improve their procedures and staff training.

This week, we submitted a proposal to the Cheshire Council and local MP with 6 key targets.

  1. Introduce processes to prevent spiking and sexual harassment within bars and clubs.
  2. Improve the quality of reporting mechanisms, and staff training response protocols.
  3. The Council acknowledges incidents of spiking, that it is an issue, and adopt a ‘one is too many’ approach, holding licensed venues to account.
  4. The Council to take responsibility in the prevention of such incidents, and stand united with other cities despite poor reporting incidents, to acknowledge the problem.
  5. For people to feel safer and empowered to report incidents of sexual harassment and spiking.
  6. To make Chester a safer and more enjoyable night out. (One of the Purple Flag Accreditation aims).

Now it’s in their hands.
We hope that the Council take these proposals seriously, and join us in the stand against spiking and harassment.
