It's time to be a Student Leader!

In our Autumn by-election, we're asking you to represent students in our Student Council!

Student Council represent the interests and communities of students, and lead the direction of Chester Students' Union. They give us feedback from the student body, approve Big Ideas, and hold the full-time Officers to account.

Important info

Nominations open at 10am on Thursday 10th October 2024 and close at 4pm on Wednesday 16th October 2024. You'll be able to nominate yourself on this page when nominations open.

You can nominate yourself for Student Council positions if you have been registered at the University of Chester for at least a month before nominating.

All students are eligible to vote in the elections, which will open at 10am on Thursday 24th October 2024, and close at 12pm on Friday 25th October 2024.

In order to vote, you will need to make sure you have agreed to share data with CSU. You can check and edit this permission by going to eVision (via Portal), and looking at the Student Self Service section under Agreements & Consent.. It will take about 48 hours to fix, so do this in advance!

What roles are available?

Student Council is the principle body responsible for representing the student voice!

It has three clear functions:

  • Setting and supporting the campaign priorities for CSU
  • Scrutinising and supporting the full-time Officers in achieving the change set out in their manifestos
  • Establishing policy that enables the student voice to be clearly heard, including voting on Big Ideas and working on campaigns

The members of council are elected either from the whole student body participating in an election. Certain positions are nominated by groups already in existence and are best placed to provide the representation for specific groups, such as Liberation representatives.

Some positions have already been filled in our Spring elections! The posts that will be elected in this by-election are:

  • Asian, Arab and Ethnic Minority Students’ Officer
  • Black Students’ Officer
  • Mature & Parent Students' Officer
  • Commuting Students’ Officer
  • Disabled Students’ Officer
  • Environment and Ethics Officer
  • International Students’ Officer
  • University Centre Birkenhead Students’ Officer
  • University Centre Shrewsbury Students’ Officer
  • University Centre Warrington Students’ Officer
